Contemporary Art and the Isle
of Wight
The Island is currently undergoing a cultural renaissance
and the arts scene is beginning to recapture the national prominence
of its Victorian heyday. A recent survey of the most creative
hotspots ranked the Island as the 7th most creatively important
place in the UK, above both Brighton & Manchester.
Much
of this has been put down to the thriving local arts scene
and the role that Quay Arts have played in fostering this growth,
ambition and support from the IW Council’s Arts Unit,
crazy art-meets-music events such as Rob da Bank’s ‘Bestival’,
the vibrant music scene led by local band The Bees and the
range of artists taking up residence on our shores. |
